Safety

Most WentSwell plans are exactly what they sound like: a game, a hike, dinner with a few new people. A little planning keeps it that way, especially the first time you meet a group.

If you’re in danger or someone is hurt, call 911.

Before you go

  • Meet in public. Pick places with other people around, like a park, a court, a café, or a brewery. Hosts, keep public events in public places, and save home hangs for private events with people you know.
  • Tell a friend. Send someone the plan: where, when, and who’s hosting. Text them when you’re home.
  • Get yourself there. Drive, ride, or take transit on your own terms, so you can leave whenever you want.
  • Keep the details in the event chat. You don’t need to give out your number, address, or social accounts until you’re comfortable.
  • Look at profiles. Take a minute to check out the host and the group before you go.

While you’re there

  • Trust your gut. If something feels off, you don’t owe anyone an explanation. Leave.
  • Know your limits. If there’s drinking, keep an eye on your drink and on how much you’ve had.
  • Never send money. No one on WentSwell should ask you for money, gift cards, or crypto. If someone does, report them.
  • Look out for each other. If someone in your group seems uncomfortable, check in with them.

If something goes wrong

  • Emergencies first. If you’re in danger, call 911. If a crime happened, contact the police as well as telling us.
  • Report it in the app. Open the person’s profile and tap the three-dot menu, or press and hold one of their messages in chat, then choose Report. Events and album photos have a Report option too. We review every report within 24 hours, and the person you report is never told who reported them.
  • Block them. Choose Block from the same menu. You stop seeing each other’s profiles, events, and messages, and you’re both removed from any event you share. They aren’t notified. You can review your blocks in Settings, then Blocked users.
  • It happened in person? Report them in the app even if nothing was said in chat. To tell us more, email support@wentswell.com.

What we do

Every WentSwell account has a verified phone number. We screen public events and profiles before they go up, and a person on our team reviews reports. People who break our Community Guidelines are removed. We don’t run background checks, though, so the steps above still matter.
